Ingredient amounts, proportions and scaled weights including process overage
Ingredient% w/wWeigh (g)Remove

Weights include overage. Rounding affects the display only; CSV and copy exports use up to 12 significant figures. Blank rows are left out. Check your balance can measure the smallest amount.

Small sample. Same formula.

Use this free ingredient scaling calculator to resize a formula written in percentages by weight (% w/w) or in measured amounts. Work in milligrams, grams or kilograms and keep the same proportions at any batch size.

Ingredient weight = (% w/w ÷ 100) × batch weight

For example, an ingredient at 4% needs 4 g in a 100 g sample or 200 g in a 5 kg batch. Add 5% process overage and you would weigh 210 g of that ingredient within a 5.25 kg batch.

A few useful answers

What does “remainder to 100%” do?

Select one ingredient, often water or a carrier, to fill the remaining percentage. The calculator subtracts all other percentages from 100. It never changes the other ingredients automatically. If they exceed 100%, correct them before exporting.

Can I enter millilitres or litres?

This calculator works by weight, not volume. Use a material’s appropriate density to convert volumes into weights before entering them. Do not assume that 1 ml of every material weighs 1 g.

How is process overage calculated?

Total to weigh = target batch × (1 + overage ÷ 100). This is extra material added on top, not a guaranteed yield. For example, 5% extra is different from compensating for a measured 5% loss, which would require dividing the target by 0.95.

What is included in the cost estimate?

Only the raw-material prices you enter, including material added for overage. Blank prices are marked as missing and the result is labelled as a partial cost. Packaging, labour, testing, delivery and any additional taxes are not added.

Does scaling the weights validate my formula?

No. This tool scales the arithmetic only. Material suitability, active strength, ingredient limits, stability, preservation, pH, compatibility, mixing conditions and manufacturing performance need separate review. Scaling up can change the process even when proportions stay the same.
